Thornby Park is a 37.3 acre park along Lakeshore Drive at Providence Boulevard in Deltona, Florida. It opened in 2011 and is located by Lake Monroe. The area was home to Native Americans and includes artifacts and an Indian midden (mound). The site is also home to native plants. The park is believed to have been the site of Fort Kingsbury, circa 1838, used during the Second Seminole War. The park cost $3 million and was funded by the City of Deltona and Volusia Forever program. A gazebo was added. The park includes a trailhead for the East Coast Regional Trail. It includes a 4 mile (one way) trail. |
